SLOW FOOD DENMARK is an association where everyone can join and participate. We are food enthusiasts who want a world with good, clean, and fair food. We support small local producers and want to spread awareness of the best of our food traditions (LINK to subpage 1). We host member events, meetings, debates, and tastings centered around good, clean, and fair food.
As a member, you can participate in all these events. Here you can meet other food enthusiasts from the industry or curious home cooks. You can sign up for one of our working groups, which focus on a specific theme – cheeses, fish and fisheries, or something completely different. Here you will have the opportunity to be invited to – or host – more specialized events and build a strong network within that specific field. In the long term, we aim to be a qualified voice in the debate on food and agriculture in Denmark.
Slow Food is a global association with millions of members in over 160 countries. Slow Food Denmark is part of this extensive international network. We work closely with the other Nordic countries and participate in global events and campaigns.
Like all other associations, we have a set articles of association and one board of directors.
Welcome to Slow Food Denmark!
A global food organization
Slow Food was founded by Carlo Petrini in Italy in 1986 in protest against McDonald's opening a fast food joint by the Spanish Steps in Rome. The organization has since spread worldwide and encourages supporting small, local producers in a food world increasingly characterized by bland, mass-produced foods that are the same all over the world. Every other year, Slow Food hosts Terra Madre – a global food festival in Turin – which you can attend as a member (Terra Madre – Slow Food Communities).
Here you can see the wide range of initiatives Slow Food is behind, from the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Bra to the 1,000 Gardens in Africa project.
The biodiversity of food
Slow Food has two global initiatives to preserve and improve knowledge of original food cultures. One is the Ark of Taste (Arca del Gusto), which is an online catalog of original food culture—dishes, vegetables, and livestock breeds—that are in danger of disappearing and deserve attention to ensure biodiversity in our shared culinary future. There are 25 Danish contributions in the Ark of Taste, for example, a number of old Danish apple varieties, bakskuld, smoked cheese, and the dark bee. Read more here.
